New Rug

When I came to work in Germany I knew there were just a few nice things I wanted to buy while in Europe.  I'm not too interested in cuckoo or grandfather clocks, where are really popular tourist items in this area.  I did really want to get a nice handmade Persian rug.  Initially I was planning on picking one up while visiting Turkey; however, this weekend near my work there was a bazaar going on.

I went with some friends and we came across a vendor selling all sorts of rugs.  I saw one and knew I was going to leave with it.  I tried to play it cool and gave some time to think it over but I went back to pick it up before we left.

The rug is from Kashmir, hand made from wool with silk accents.

The circular design is supposed to mimic looking up at the inside of a painted dome.

One of the things that is really neat about it that you can't tell from the picture is that the colors are lighter or darker depending on the viewing angle.  I absolutely love it!
